Enttec DMX USB PRO is a USB DMX adapter that allows HSYCO to control any DMX-512 standard bus.

IO Server Enttec Module.png

This device connects to a USB port on HSYCO Server, and is powered through the USB, so there is no need for an external power supply.

The circuitry implements 1500 V full electrical isolation (data & power lines to protect the HSYCO Server from surges).

HSYCO supports the DMX out port only.

Check the ENTTEC site for additional information.

Connections

The ENTTEC DMX USB PRO connects to HSYCO using a USB port with the FTDI virtual com driver.

The device driver will assign a serial port, with a name that depends on the operating system and the presence of virtual com devices on other USB ports.

You can connect multiple ENTTEC DMX USB PRO devices or other DMX controllers to an HSYCO Server.

HSYCO Running on Linux

The FTDI driver is already present on HSYCO’s standard Ubuntu-based distribution.

Simply connect the ENTTEC DMX USB PRO to a USB port on HSYCO Server and look in the /var/log/syslog file to find the serial device name assigned to the device.

You should see something like this:

Jul 25 12:22:07 hsycoserver kernel: [1206668.247487] usb 2-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

In this case the port name is ttyUSB0. You should expect this to be the name that is assigned in most cases if there are no other devices attached to the USB ports.

HSYCO Running on Mac OS X

On Mac OS X you will have to install the FTDI Virtual COM (VCP) driver. You can download the appropriate driver from FTDI’s drivers page, then follow the installation instructions for Mac OS X.

Once the driver is installed, and the device connected to a USB port, the driver will assign a port name that contains part of the device’s serial number, so it should be quite easy to find. Look at the files in the /dev directory, and you should see something like this:

crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 18, 49 Jul 25 13:06 /dev/cu.usbserial-EN099618
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 18, 48 Jul 25 13:06 /dev/tty.usbserial-EN099618

You can simply use the last part of the name, 099618 in this case, to configure the port name in System Settings.

HSYCO Configuration

Once the ENTTEC DMX USB PRO is configured in System Settings, you will be able to control the DMX-512 bus as with any other supported DMX controller on HSYCO.

There is no need to explicitly define an HSYCO comm port to use the ENTTEC DMX USB PRO.
